/ In our job ads, social media posts, etc. we often say we’re fighting for diversity. And we’re got some interesting thoughts on this, and because of that, here’s my very first EVER twitter rant thread
/ Some commented along the lines of “you’re discriminating against people just because they are not _diverse_ and that’s wrong (amongst other things)” - here’s the thing, we do not block anyone because they are not diverse, THATS NOT WHAT WORKING TOWARDS IMPROVE DIVERSITY MEANS
/ In a company like @remote we get a lot of great people applying, and we’re super grateful for that! This means that _minorities_ will tend to _continue_ to be a minority if you’re just sampling as you normally would! Improving diversity means you do work BEFORE people apply!
/ We do this by proactively reaching out through recruiters, companies, work groups, etc. that have experience working with a more diverse pool of candidates! And because our hiring pipeline is insanely big, we continue to screen everyone according to the EXACT SAME STANDARDS!
/ Working towards diversity IS NOT LOWERING STANDARDS, IS NOT DISCRIMINATING PEOPLE in any way, it is building a hiring process that is inclusive, respectful and that you don’t close a job opening until you made sure you did all you could to improve your team’s diversity!
/ And if you’re good, kind, and the values on http://handbook.remote.com  resonate with you, then it doesn’t matter who you are, what color your skin is, where you came from or who you love.
