the amount of “ive known ppl who have faked it” from the thread really makes me skeptic because holy sheit is getting on disability or anything of that nature is a bureaucratic invasive nightmare.

like how did they pull it off when so many who obviously need it can’t???
hence reasoning goes several places if that is *truly* the case of either they had a network or safe net working the system—plausible since it’s broken, or it comes down to other deciding factors, medical bias, ableism, racism, sexism, classism, and so on.
there’s also the possibility of not wanting to acknowledge their disabilities in favour of appearing “normal” or not seem like a “burden” and whatnot.
there is so much harmful mythos fed about disabled ppl that it has simply become a fictionalized account taken at first impression.

and when it’s the first impressions, it’s usually difficult to break or change it.

that’s why the public perception regarding disability is vital.
[CW/TW: death + suicide mention via ableist assumptions]

and this narrative is usually fed by the notion of “id rather be dead than disabled like you”.

when this is a common fact said so causally—that’s a symptom of what this mythological belief that systematic ableism creates.
it’s a large part of the reason why i wrote this thread yesterday amongst other thoughts related.

also why this harmful narrative plays into the whole “faked disability” narrative cause it’s easier to say that rather than confront the truth that society allows this so willingly. https://twitter.com/thewritermab/status/1306349047184265216
there’s so much more that should and needs to be said related to this—to all of this but i honestly don’t have the energy to do so right now. 😕
