The whole argument that farmers will be looted by private Agro companies under the new farm bills is absurd !

The grip that APMC & farm Mandis have on price of farm produce is immense.

I don’t despise APMCs in totality. But the hegemony needs to end to bring farmers justice !

Whenever a crop is ready to sell, we see bumper inflow of crop in mandis in 1st phase.

The marginal farmers cant keep crop with them for long as they are high on debt & low on liquidity.

They sell their produce instantly for need of money.
Prices crash everytime in this period.

Market forces are too strong. Then, after 20-30 days - when the weak hands are out of the market by selling cheap - strong hands enter.

This phenomenon is similar to stock market where TV analysts,brokerage houses spread negativity about a stock so that weak retailers exit low.

Problem with farmers here is that farmers need the money for next cropping season.
Small farmers simply cant wait.
MSPs aren’t honoured in practical markets many a time, especially with crops having moisture content (where weight reduces with time as moisture content dips).

Also, my observation & experience of interacting with many customers (during my time in family business)- who were farmers, has convinced me that farmers are living in a shackle, a bondage of price.

Let their price discovery happen !

Will allowing them freedom to sell anyone/anywhere give them better prices?
Some pessimists say well, they will be looted by pvt companies too?

This is a nonsensical & idiotic criticism.

When options to sell increase, seller benefits. Period !!

Let our farmers get linked to internet ecosystem.
Let them think beyond local Mandi.

This will:-

Educate them on market possibilities (will take time but hey!)

Empower them

Make them agri entrepreneurs

Enable them to think beyond local market.

Build self-cofidence in them
