There are so many reasons why people stay in their relationship, even if it is unhealthy or abusive. From an outside perspective, people may not understand that leaving can be more complicated than it seems.

Here are some common reasons why people stay in abusive relationships:
🏡 They believe abuse is normal. If they grew up in an environment where abuse was common, or if they didn't grow up seeing healthy relationships in action, this makes a lot of sense.
👤 They may feel embarrassment or shame. It's often difficult for someone to admit that they've been abused. They may feel like they've done something wrong, or that their friends and family will judge them.
👩‍👩‍👧‍👧 They may have cultural or religious reasons for staying. Traditional gender roles supported by someone's culture or religion may influence them to stay for fear of bringing shame on their family or community.
