So, I went to the dentist today. A thread. 1/
I have been so conflicted about the safety of going; I've rescheduled appointments twice. (We were due back in April). I was treated kindly the first reschedule, then with a bit of grump the second time. IT IS SAFE they said. I still waited a bit. 2/
All of us are fine except one kid who has wisdom teeth causing an issue. With a lot of trepidation, I scheduled visits NOW instead of waiting any longer w/ flu season on the horizon. Still didn't feel good about it. 3/
Walked in to the office (which is tiny). Waiting room down to 4 chairs w/ some air purifier running. Signs politely "asking you to wear mask if able" (though we're under a mandate in NC, but okay whatever). 2 of 3 people in room no mask. 4/
We each waited in the car until our turn, instead of the waiting room. Once I got back there it was okay. It appeared my hygienist was wearing 2 masks & a face shield. She was friendly but... 5/
It was very obvious she's not into Covid. Multiple remarks. 1) We already cleaned good enough. We didn't change anything. 2) Dentist had someone come in and fix our ventilation 3) We have air purifiers. 4)I 100% believe it's real BUT I don't know one person who has had it 6/
Continued statements: 5) It can't be as serious as they are saying it is cause I don't know anyone who has actually gotten it 6) I don't know who to believe 7) This morning my daughter had a really stuffy nose & I sent her to pre-K with Benadryl ... 7/
There was continued discussion about "how serious it really is" and I stopped, paused and said, as best as I can quote: "If you have had the PRIVILEGE of being healthy your whole life or never having chronic illness or disease, then yeah, I guess I could see your point." 8/
I really like this lady; she's my usual hygienist. I like her professionally and personally. However, she didn't really do well today to assuage my concerns. She was very flippant, and honestly ... I wouldn't think the dentist would want her being so "open" about her ease. 9/
We got in & got the hell out quickly. In 6 months I'll cross that bridge again if it is worth the risk. But I didn't love it. I forgot to mention in this thread that we had to sign waivers stating we realized WE were taking the risk. Despite office begging us to come in b/c safe
