Things I wished I knew in my 20’s

Been a little while since I navigated my way through this decade.

If I had the chance, this is what I would say to my younger self.

Thanks @vizovisek who got me thinking on this theme. 👊🏼

Spend more time with your Grandfather.

He was a pain in the backside sometimes, but so much of who you are is from him.

He is a large part of your success in later life.

Find out more about the life he lived. When you are older you’ll wish you did.
Meet your real father earlier.

Maybe you would have had a relationship with him, maybe not.

But more for your step brother and sister.

You’re tough, they’re not.

They’ll carry you in their thoughts for 20 years, never meeting you.
You don’t know Everything

Actually you know jack shit.

I know you won’t listen to me, but be more modest.

You’re a smart fucker, but you’re not that smart.

You’ll learn it later, but you should have learnt it earlier.
Don’t go to University

It was fun, but a waste of time.

You didn’t learn anywhere near enough for the time that you were there.

It taught you how to be lazy and still win.

Real life’s not like that.
Go into Commission Sales ASAP.

Don’t be scared.

You’ll get killed at the start, you’ll want to quit but it will be one of the best things you’ll ever do.

It will teach you so much about yourself and people.

You’ll read people like a book after it.
Learn to write.

Even though you hate it now, you can be good at it.

But you need to start earlier.

Keep searching until you find something that appeals to your learning style.

And write every day.
Stay in better contact with your school friends.

Make an effort, don’t be a lazy prick.

It will open a lot more doors for you.

But more importantly they are good people.
Don’t be such a cynic.

It won’t get you anywhere.

It’s just a smart arse way to look at life.

Be more optimistic, believe there is good in everybody.

Life is too important.
Start your own business earlier.

Be fearless.

You will fail, but that’s ok.

Your fear of failure will hold you back from being all that you can be.

Stop worrying about what people are thinking about you.

Most of them aren’t thinking about you at all.
Get your head around technology sooner.

It’s not your strength, but you need to try harder.

Don’t bury your head in the sand.

‘I’m just not good at it’ is a shit excuse, and you know it.
Travel sooner and more often.

See the world, learn some languages.

It will completely change your outlook on life.

Even though you don’t think you’ll like it, you will.

A lot of your greatest memories will come from travel.
Drink a little less.

Should say a lot less, but I’ll say a little less.

You’ll have a wild ride and alcohol will give you the courage to do a lot of things you wouldn’t have done sober.

Just not too much, because you will fuck it up if you do.
Oh and buy Amazon, lots of it.

I know it sounds like it’s a stupid idea, but it’s going to be kinda big.

Trust me.
Thanks for making it this far.

I just had a half hour spare and started typing.

I had no idea where it would go.

Little more personal than I’d like.

If you enjoyed it and you know someone who would benefit from it, hit the retweet. 🔁 🙏
