I was head of policy for 5 years and then Director for 6 at the UK's leading race equality thinktank and was asked to speak abt racism on the television less often than your average failed musician, child of a celebrity or far right activists and politicians
It was striking that BME journalists were much more likely to seek to cover stories abt race and racism at all, and with any kind of seriousness
It's only one argument for greater representation in the media but it's an important one: better understanding of the reality of the ethnic minority experience in Britain, including their experience of racial discrimination and what that means for all of us
