Was having some unorganised thoughts
I agree that medvedeva's story is extremely nuanced and nothing appears as it is.
But that's exactly why I am highly uncomfortable in seeing orser pictured as the good guy, a father for her who took her away from an abusive mother.
Coaches are NOT mothers or fathers they should be just coaches and their relationship with their students should just be a professional one just like eteri is bad because she is manipulative and abusive, the way tcc is seen as a supportive family is just a distortion of reality
And if it's not a distortion and it's all true, well, that is no good either because coaches shouldn't treat skaters as their children or they risk to harm both themselves and the skaters. This also leads to having emotional favourites and is an environment that is not free from
Possible emotional abuse. Just because eteri doesn't hide it doesn't mean she is the only one doing what she does. See all the other coaches we found out to be absolute garbage lately.
And we also sometimes forget evgenia as young as she is, she is a person herself and as one she is extremely nuanced, I personally believe she's never been that innocent undefended child. She is extremely smart and I think she is one of the smartest people in figure skating
The way she could do THAT, go to Canada like no one before already tells you enough, she was surely backed and supported by someone bigger than her in her decisions too, she herself can be manipulative and lie to media and i don't blame her at all it's a way as another to survive
It's not that I don't have empathy, she must have suffered too and I'm sorry for her, but a suggestion I just want to give to everyone is that it's not healthy to project our own stories of struggle (or worse, abuse) on a person we don't know. Ok I'm done
