Really interesting (and logical) stuff from @EnergySysCat this morning on Consumer Insight in their Net Zero Webinar series (a bit of a thread):

👉 The term 'Net Zero' isn't understood by everyone
👉 People are addicted to their cars as public transport isn't good enough
👉 People say they want to replace heating with low carbon option but evidence/data suggests they don't - cost and convenience are the primary factors stopping them. It's very easy to replace like-for-like. Swapping a gas boiler for a low-carbon option requires a lot more legwork
'We can achieve net zero by 2050, but it'll require people to take part. They have the veto'. This is true - the incentives, systems and tech offered to households and consumers needs to be as good or better than they have today. If you make it hard then people just won't do it.
