Unclear if this is displacement from deaths which would otherwise have happened in hospitals. Are patients deterred from seeking help in hospital, or choosing to stay at home at end of life?

Reduced admissions to care homes could also be a factor, although data on care home occupancy patchy. We know there have been about 5% fewer deaths in care homes in the last 3 months compared with 5 year average.
