A Thread: what is Sitr and it’s benefits.
Our generation has confused lack of Sitr(concealing your sins) with being “honest”, Sitr is SO IMPORTANT please please read this thread.
Sitr is Arabic word for hide/cover/conceal, but in this thread it means concealing and hiding your sins.
A sin is a sin and has its allocated punishment that Allah (swt) has decreed. However, if a sin is committed and Allah showed mercy on you and concealed it from ..(cont)
Society, then please show mercy on yourself and don’t go around telling people. Unless the sin you committed has negatively affected other people and you telling the truth does more good to others.
Reasons why Sitr is important to society and the person(Cont)
1. The sinner has a chance to repent without being held down by the labels and prejudice of being a sinner, they can have a fresh start without society making it hard for them based on their prior acts.
(Conti)
2. The sins won’t be normalised and taken lightly by society, we’ve seen this between the millennials and Gen z. In my time the minority would talk to opposite gender, their relationships hidden. But now my cousins are telling me that if a girl don’t chat to a guy she’s odd.
This shift in mentality made it normal to commit such a sin, now people show their sins on the TL, to their friends, their siblings, cousins, etc.
Young guys are even showing off that they go drinking and clubbing.

This exposure has allowed us to become desensitised.
Also, it’s just as important to have Sitr on other muslims as it is on yourself, you’ll be rewarded.
When you sin and show it off, normalising it to other people, you’re spreading evil involuntary.

Allah only needs to know and forgive, not people, so keep your sins hidden.
I’ve seen many brothers and sisters who have turned their life around but still get talked about and labelled 15 years later. This obstructs them from integrating back into society, getting married, even raising their kids as they (kids) end up overhearing from others
I’m not telling people to go a head and sin, but I’m saying if you find yourself guilt ridden by your secret, have a private talk with Allah (swt) not other people. Honesty is not needed in this scenario as it does more damage to society overall.
