I'm just compiling lighting inspiration pics for reference and gdi the heartcatch precure movie had some beautiful lighting
ayoooo all the volumetric lights or god rays or sunbeams whatever you wanna call it in kkss are so pretty
[makes anguished noises]

pretty also im in pain
the diffuse reflection and the bokeh is so pretty
MY FAVOURITE EPISODE

also very good lighting
^ for something like this uhhh is it the background artist doing two different version or is this in compositing...
I think it's a combination because stuff like the minute differences in reflections and highlights don't seem like it's done in comp, I think it must have been painted. Some volumetric light might've been done comp tho i think

idk idk
oops it's 2:30 am and i made yet another matsumoto thread (not an accident but definitely did not intend to keep at it hours later...)
last one of the night... I have so questions i will never have answered about why she made the change from tv broadcast (L) to BD release (R) for this specific scene
NOW I SLEPT. kkss's use of volumeric light is cool bc there's a deliberate reason besides visual appeal -- Hellsalem's Lot is engulfed with fog so the sunlight that passes through creates those sunbeams. The effect feels otherworldly by using how light interacts in the real world
honestly no other anime looks like Kekkai Sensen. There's other directors and storyboard artists who have similarities to Matsumoto's angles/framing and visual gimmicks but nothing else looks like kkss because of that relationship of fog, lighting and background art.
