MY MORNING...

N/B: "That it worked twice for you doesn't mean it's the right thing to do"

She delivered her 2 kids at home and all of sudden she felt those registering for ANC had excess money to waste...

Few minutes ago she was rushed in...BLOOD EVERYWHERE!!!

#OdogwuTales
Her blood pressure was low and her heart beat was racing, these are signs of someone in "SHOCK"

"Shock is when you don't have enough blood circulating around your body"

She don dey bleed since she deliver, they said...

Me: This woman is having "POST PARTUM HEMORRHAGE"
• What Is POST PARTUM HEMORRHAGE?

-Let's break it down
Post Partum- After Childbirth
Hemorrhage- Bleeding

Post Partum Hemorrhage (PPH) is significant bleeding or loss of blood after child birth.

It's the NO.1 cause of death in women whilst pregnant or 42days after pregnancy.
• Causes Of PPH?
They are mainly called the 4 T's ,i.e

I. TONE (Uterine Atony)

The uterus(womb) contracts during labor to push out the baby and placenta and also continues contracting few weeks after delivery to stop the blood vessels around the womb from bleeding.

If the...
womb doesn't contract after delivery it's called "Uterine Atony" and it's the no. 1 cause of PPH

- Causes Of Uterine Atony
1. Multiple pregnancies
2. Overstretching of the womb from twins/triplets
3. Prolonged labor
4. Some drugs
5. Full bladder, inability to urinate
II. TRAUMA (Damage To Any Of The Genital Structures)

- Genital structures include womb, cervix, vagina and perineum.

Damage could be caused by the following:
1. Cut during C/S
2. Tear when a child is going out of the vagina
3. Damage from instruments used in delivery
III. TISSUE (Retained Placenta)

- Usually the placenta separates from the wall of the womb during labor and comes out after child birth but there are cases where the placenta remains in the womb after child birth

- Retained placenta prevents uterine contraction which causes
IV. THROMBIN (Blood Clotting Disorders)

- Thrombin is an enzyme in humans that help produce clumps of blood called clot that helps stop bleeding.

- So anytime there's bleeding in the body, the body produces clot that stops the bleeding but there are conditions where clots...
cannot be formed such as:

1. A genetic disorder called "Von Williebrands Disease"
2. Eclampsia, excessively increased BP in pregnancy
3. Placenta Abruptio, when the placenta detaches from the womb before delivery
• Treatment And Prevention Of PPH:

1. Massaging the womb to help contraction
2. Empty bladder using a catheter
3. Drugs can be given to help the womb contract
4. Stitching vaginal or any tear seen
5. Treating medical conditions that prevent blood clot

6. DELIVER IN A HOSPITAL!
