Sad news re: John Daly and his cancer battle. Really hope he gets through.

Feel it’s an opportune time to share this ripping story that provides some insight on the great man.

Daly was a regular at the Heineken Classic in Perth in the 90’s and always a massive drawcard. (1/6)
One year he makes the cut but then has an absolute shocker in the third round. He’s last in the field and with an odd number of players he has to play on his own early in the morning in the final round. (2/6)
With a desire to get the hell out of Perth asap he hacks around The Vines in his final round without any care whatsoever and is done in about an hour and a half. Pretty ordinary showing for a marquee player who is there on a big guest appearance fee. (3/6)
Anyway, a kid from my club in Perth who must have been around 10 yrs old was Daly obsessed. Literally did not miss a shot of his from all four rounds including his early morning, couldn’t give a stuff, final round showing in the Perth heat when everyone else had given up. (4/6)
Daly, in a pretty ordinary mood understandably, hasn’t said a word to the kid for all four rounds despite the youngsters unwavering devotion. On the final green, having noticed that the kid has followed him for every shot despite his horror show, Daly finally approaches him (5/6)
He says to the kid: “Meet me in the pro shop in half an hour.”

So the youngster waits, as you would, with his father and uncle.

Daly rocks up as promised.....and buys the young fan a brand new $600 driver.

Legend. (6/6)
