to anyone who genuinely thinks that today's #BiARSD is "dividing the fandom," let me put things in context for you; a thread https://twitter.com/smoItaetae/status/1306292102700167170
first off, i have a question for y'all (pls qrt ur answers) do y'all think that "straight pride" is a thing as well? if so, then continue reading (if not, continue reading anyway, maybe you'll learn a thing or two)
1. the lgbtqia+ community has been systemically shamed, derided, and even criminalized for the past several centuries - they have been SPECIFICALLY TARGETED, BULLIED, KILLED - and even in our current day and age, things aren't amazing for our community
2. but even so, there are so many historic breakthroughs we've had, and as a display of victory, as well as embracing who we are, we celebrate pride - just like how y'all would celebrate independence day, or a similar victory
3. #BiARSD is by no means a pride parade, but it's still a celebration of pride, a celebration of who we are - it's a way for us, as a historically marginalized group to come together, united, and celebrate who we are
4. and if you still think that it's "divisive" to unite and bolster a community of people who have been consistently put down for who they are, then let me give it to you in analogy form - let's take the sexuality out of it altogether (this applies to straight pride too btw!!!)
5. imagine a group of children, most of whom are extremely tall, with a few of medium height, and just a couple who are shorter than the rest of the group. now imagine that the tall children are given a ton of candy their whole lives, just because they're tall+
while the shortest get some, but not anything substantial, and the medium ones hardly get any at all. the children are sad at first - some even wish they were tall - but they eventually realize that they're perfectly beautiful as they are.
so the short/medium children go out and buy their own candy, since the adults supervising only give the taller children candy, and throw a party in celebration of their newly-bought candy. but the taller children aren't happy at all! no, they want some of that candy too+
because how unfair is it for the shorter/medium children to go and get their own candy! the taller children, despite already having loads of candy, storm the short/medium children's party, forcibly take the candy away from them, and tell them that they don't deserve candy+
and all they're doing by throwing a party without the taller children is being exclusive of the them.
sounds ridiculous, doesn't it?
exactly.
exactly.
the taller children (aka our cishets/straight priders) have been given that privilege their entire life, while those of us who don't fit that exact niche ideal have been disenfranchised. and the moment we decide that we're not, in fact, worthy of that scorn, and when we accept+
ourselves, celebrate ourselves, we're STILL torn down. because y'all think that you're "being excluded." please, we've literally been excluded all our lives, that's why we have these celebrations. why we DON'T include you is bc every single day is a celebration of your existence.
and as for arsds specifically, this is a specific community whom we're bolstering together, with the intent of hyping them up and making them feel proud of who they are. just like poc arsds. just like ALL arsds. so in no way is #BiARSD divisive - rather, it's the opposite.
as a fandom, we're bringing our bi members together and showing them that we love them. that's literally the point. that's all it is. it's not that hard to understand.
so please, rather than tearing our fellow armys down, let's show them that we love and respect them.
