A short thread of the recent energy/climate/gas news and analysis. There's a bit.
Coalition says it will re-fund the renewable energy agency, but give it less than before and direct the $$$ away from wind and solar.
There's $50m for CCS and $70m for a hydrogen hub. What are we going to use to make the hydrogen? -

A Morrison government claim that new electricity generation is urgently needed to replace New South Wales’s Liddell coal plant is not backed by a taskforce report commissioned to assess the impact of its closure https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2020/sep/16/advice-to-government-contradicts-coalition-claim-over-liddell-coal-plant-closure
What the f*** is going on with gas? What is the question the government is trying to answer? What does the advice it has received say? Etc. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2020/sep/17/scott-morrisons-gas-led-recovery-what-is-it-and-will-it-really-make-energy-cheaper

Good ARENA is being refunded. Steering it to solutions in need of support makes some obvious sense - if they are genuinely zero emissions and more than a fossil fuel industry subsidy (and even if it makes the name of the org a misnomer). Let’s see the detail.
Amid the reax, it's worth looking at what ARENA funds now. It isn't straight wind + solar. It's stuff that needs a push - virtual power plants, future grid, EV smart charging, grid stability, biogas-to-hydrogen, renewable ammonia feasibility etc. See here https://arena.gov.au/projects/?project-value-start=0&project-value-end=200000000
Context/reaction re the government's plan to change the Australian Renewable Energy Agency.
Also some reflections on the moral qualities of emissions reductions.
