In the wake of that new (impressive) Harry Potter universe game being announced, people seem to be doing a lot of ethical gymnastics to justify how buying the game wouldn't support JK Rowling.

@thelindsayellis once did a really good video on how that's... kind of not possible.

The full video is here (the clip I posted is abridged and slightly out of order). I highly encourage watching it if you're struggling to reconcile your love for Harry Potter and cool looking games with such an outwardly horrible creator.
To be clear, I'm not telling you what you can or cannot purchase - just sharing a video that put my own dilemma in context and stopped me from warping the situation to reach a convenient conclusion.

This thread articulates some of this sentiment better. https://twitter.com/ashleylynch/status/1306478495103549443?s=19
I've also seen people saying that they're going to buy the game but match the purchase price with a donation to a trans charity or by supporting the work of trans creators. If supporting the developers is a priority for you, it's worth considering that as an option.
For myself, I feel like purchasing the game sends a message that the franchise (and JK by association) is viable for businesses, which does bolster her influence. Even if her cut is small, even if plenty of developers who did nothing wrong worked on the game. I can't square that.
