the fact that people assume you can “fake” disabilities for welfare and disability programs really goes to show people don’t know how any of it works, much less how difficult it is to apply and obtain even when you qualify without a doubt.
time and time again, i see this excuse when it comes to disability programs and welfare, especially with the mythological belief you are “rich” when you are on these programs.
many of these programs function below the poverty line, and the fact so many hoops have to be jumped through and forms signed and proven by medical professionals and more just for a small amount that is below the poverty line.

idk about you, but there’s nothing “rich” about it.
when this belief is assumed and used against those in need, usually disabled ppl, you are neglecting to see the big picture—often being the humanization of those who are on these programs and welfare means.

it writes us off as “greedy” and “burdens”, etc this way when we’re not.
this mythological belief that paints disabled ppl, those who are homeless and live in poverty as well as the working class in such a light that it allows the middle class and the elite and the rich to ignore the profound struggles society conceals so often.
these misguided beliefs fuels the systematic racism, ableism, classism and more by doing so.
we claim to be a community and society, but we neglect to help those who are in need the most to survive.

that’s not what being a community or society is—but sadly it’s become this reality.
unless we change that, the awful myths and beliefs regarding welfare and disability programs will continue.
these beliefs only perpetuates a violent cycle created through capitalism, and kept functioning through systematic racism, classism, ableism and more that has been happening for centuries.
charities are not enough—humanize us by seeing + wanting to help change it, challenge people’s perceptions when they perpetuate harmful rhetoric against those in need.

don’t ignore, neglect and continue to dehumanize those in need, humanize us instead by doing smth about it. 💕
