exciting announcement thread!

this fall, @codymillerELA and I are launching an online group for LGBTQ+ high schoolers called Love & LiteraTea.

It’s a space for students to read and discuss LGBTQ+ YA with LGBTQ+ teachers. You can learn more here: http://loveliteratea.com

since March, I have been thinking about how to create liberatory learning spaces for LGBTQ+ youth in the midst of a pandemic. home is complicated for many LGBTQ+ kids (+ adults). as soon as social distancing began, I started thinking about youth for whom home is not safe.

I’ve been thinking about queering and reimagining schooling in a way that privileges community over content, that prioritizes the safety, affirmation, and liberation of youth, that is rooted in radical love.

that’s what @CodyMillerELA and I hope @loveliteratea will be.

this group is free and open to all LGBTQ+ high schoolers. @loveliteratea is a literacy space meaning we’ll ground our discussions in literature but it is not a class!

there are no grades, no required assignments - just good books, conversation, and community.

kids don’t have to be “out” to join @loveliteratea. kids don’t have to have their identities “figured out.” we are a safe space for students who need community and just want to be heard. students can apply here: http://loveandliterarea.com

we’re committed to providing books to all kids who need them and will make sure they get them in their preferred format.

if you want to donate to @loveliteratea, contact us through the form on our website.

when I was in high school, I was closeted and searched for nuanced representation in every single facet of life. I can only imagine how my experience would have shifted had I been able to read books like those @CodyMillerELA and I chose for this year’s @loveliteratea stack.
lastly, shout out to the authors included in our inaugural @loveliteratea stack. thank you for writing these stories. thank you for being.
