a fic idea that lives in my mind rent free is one where canon wwx, messing around with some talisman, sends himself to the modern era but in exchange, his modern era reincarnation is sent to the past

both wwxs are married to their lwjs. modern era lwj is affronted and SO SKEPTICAL of this stranger who claims to be wwx but looks absolutely nothing like him. meanwhile canon era lwj is maybe crying a little because holy shit that's a face he hadn't seen IN SO LONG

modern era lwj ends up believing canon era wwx cuz he says some details about his body that no one but wwx knows of and now he's crying a little because holy shit we were married in our past lives as well???

that leads to an awkward question cuz why does past wwx look different if past lwj looks exactly the same (minus the hair length) and ahahaha lan zhan wouldn't you like to know!

it's now canon era wwx's time to cry because 1-shijie is reincarnated 2- shijie is happy and living healthily 3- maaayybe he's sliiiightly happy that jzx is alive as well 4- a-ling is an adorable 4 year old toddler!! 5- JIANG CHENG

meanwhile modern era wwx is malfunctioning at the sight of lan zhan with long hair and elegant robes and holy shit WHAT DO YOU MEAN WE WERE MARRIED IN THE PAST and lan zhan is U REALLY SAYING WE MEET AND MARRY AGAIN AFTER WE REINCANRATE truly soulmates behavior

canon era lwj, realizing that it's better if modern wwx knows as little as possible about the past, tries to keep wwx within the cloud recesses but bitch u thought, jc is there on some sect business and wwx drops the bomb that jc is married to lxc in the future

this wwx is talking freely about a future jc doesn't know about where he, wwx, jyl are close and alive and thriving and having families of their own and now it's jc's turn to cry a little inside and ultimately decides it's better if nothing is known

canon era wwx is having the time of his life being introduced to modern technology by lwj and 7 year old a-yuan and he's SO EXCITED lwj thinks my husband is the same in all of his reincarnations ofc he is I love him

he sees all the photos wwx kept. their wedding, his childhood, a-yuan, lwj's parents (he decides to memorize lwj's mother's face to try and draw it again, hopefully it's her reincarnation as well if everyone is reincarnated, right??). he maybe weeps cuz of his own parents pics

meanwhile modern era wwx is experiencing flying on a sword with lwj, meets wn who absolutely refuses to explain why tf he looks like a dead corpse according to modern era wwx, successfully gets distracted from his request to see jyl and how she looked like in the past

the junior quartet are startled to see his true form, wwx feels OLD because holy shit my babies are so grown up what the fuck they were babies literally yesterday. a-ling is emotional that his parents are alive in the future and that he has these fuckers as his friends there

yes everyone gets emotional because all I want from this is canon era wwx, jc, a-ling, lwj learn that there is a future for them where things are much, much better and hurts much, much less, where grief and pain and heavy responsibilities didn't touch them

(well didn't touch them AS HARD as it did in the past, if u consider lwj's and wwx's parents, and if u decide that the jiang parents are dead as well in the future for whatever)

when things return to normal, modern era wangxian forget it but canon era everyone doesn't. wwx tells his husband what he saw in the future, a little wistful but smiling widely. he ends up drawing his mother's portrait and lwj weeps into his shoulder cuz yup that looks like her

lwj couldn't bring himself to ask this to modern era wwx, so wwx tells him what he learned from the future, that his mother apparently lived happily, a short life but happy nonetheless

in the time canon era wwx was in the modern time, ofc he met jyl. that's the first time he cried in quite some time and jyl held him through it, no one asking any question. he made sure to get the exact recipe of her soup from her (it!! tasted the same as he remembers!!! )

he and jc don't need to try to replicate it and struggle with getting the flavor anymore. he has the recipe from the person herself directly. HE CAN MAKE IT FOR JC AND A-LING WITH EXACTLY THE SAME TASTE AND FLAVOR!

canon era wwx now takes it upon himself to play matchmaker for lxc and jc because future jc was spoiled rotten by lxc and they were so cute and happy together. lwj hisses at the idea but what can he do

he doesn't need to because after the bomb modern era wwx dropped, lxc and jc are like "EYES SNAPPED OPEN" and are considering things differently if the sexual tension between them in this one meeting is any indicator
