This is a thread in which I will discuss the perfection of Episode 7 of #TedLasso , starring @jasonsudeikis and Hannah Waddingham and SPOILERS WILL ABOUND so beware. SO WELCOME TO MY #TedLasso TALK!
First of all, this show does so right by female friendship. I love Hannah Waddington and Juno Temple. Second of all, TED AND COACH BEARD. The acting. The asides. The jokes, the genuine affection.
I think I am likely late to the @jasonsudeikis is Not Just A Comic Genius, But Also a Very Excellent Dramatic Actor Party, but I am here now. The scene where he's drunk and disheveled and doesn't want to sign the divorce document is perfection.
The whole season has been set up perfectly for @nickmohammed (who is FANTASTIC as Nathan) to deliver his speech in the locker room. Holy keepers, footballers. Funny, serious, and perfect at the end when he and the also wonderful @brettgoldstein look each other in the eye.
Also don't even get me started on #TheIronGiant. 😭😭😭😭😭
THEN we have the perfectly set up "Let It Go" karaoke scene. MY LAND, Hannah Waddington. We wanted to see you hit that note and the catharsis when you did was perfection. (Side note: it reminds me of the first time hearing that song in the theater, when we all had NO IDEA.)
But the release and relief of that note, which comes as Rebecca lets go of her divorce, is juxtaposed with absolute tension as Ted sits there, on the verge of no such relief. He's headed over the brink into that scary, dark land of separation. Watching him--it's gutting.
And here's where @jasonsudeikis crushes it again. That panic attack. The utter truth and vulnerability in that portrayal. Wow. And Rebecca coming out to find him. We were living that with them.
There are more moments. Ted's text later to Rebecca. Her reaction. Keely and Roy. And, of course, Brendan Hunt as Coach Beard singing "Bad Romance." You guys, there's too much. This show is too good.
I waver between feeling like we can't possibly deserve this and feeling like of course we deserve it, this is 2020, people, and this is going to FREAKING GET US THROUGH.
Okay, I'm done now. I just really love it, as a sports fan and a comedy fan and a person in this world. It's so good. This concludes my #TedLasso   talk.
