A thread on Virat Kohli, and why he is overrated.
Before I start this, I would like to say Kohli is a great player, and one of the best of this generation, but not the best, as players like Steve Smith have a much superior record in big games.
Let’s start off with his knockout record. He has played 6 world cup knockout games, and scored 73 runs. Very poor. An average of 12.

Let’s compare this to Steve Smith, Smith has scored 311 runs, with an average of 104, as you can see Smith’s record is superior, by a distance
When you look at Kohli’s semi-final record, it gets worse. He has played in 3 semi-finals and has only scored 11 runs. Most recently vs New Zealand, he came into bat when he was needed most, and scored 1 run. Let his team down, yet again
Compare that to Steve Smith’s Semi-Final record, who has been involved in 2 semi-finals, and scored 190 runs. An average of 95, remarkable.
Yes, Kohli has won a world cup, but he didn’t play much of a role in that tournament.

In 2011, he scored 24 runs in the quarter-final, 9 in the semi-final and 35 in the final. An average of of 23 in knockouts

He also only got 282 runs in 9 games, (31 average) 18th most runs.
Finally Kohli’s most recent final, was the Champions Trophy 2017, India were against fierce rivals Pakistan, Kohli came out to bat when he was needed most, but choked the big occasion yet again, scoring only 5 runs, Pakistan went on to win the game.
This concludes the thread, as I said Kohli is a great player, but when he hasn’t hit a 50 in 6 world cup knockout matches, you need to think, is he the best?
