Torontonians have already sacrificed a great deal in our fight against COVID-19. But this is a marathon, not a sprint. My letter to the Board of Health on actions the City and @TOPublicHealth will be implementing in response to the recent resurgence of cases:
The data tells us that the major factor contributing to the rise in cases in recent days is people getting together, and not practicing physical distancing or wearing a mask. Events like small weddings, birthdays, playdates, and family BBQs are putting people are risk.
If we want to prevent a big second wave, we have to act now. Speed is critical. That's why the City is working with other levels of gov't to implement the following:
1. Reducing social gathering limits
2. Expanding mask requirements
3. Increasing enforcement of existing rules
The reality is that COVID-19 is not going away any time soon. If we continue to work together, we can limit the spread and save lives. That's why we all need to continue to:
-Watch our distance
-Wear our mask
-Wash our hands

And take care of each other.
