On that note, I remember seeing some twitter talk about learning to play Pro on #UtaPri #ShiningLive. My personal experience is YES YOU CAN. I find the game mechanics are easy to learn (tap, hold, slide). HOWEVER, mastering them is a complete different subject & not for everyone!
Honestly, if your wrist can handle it, TREASURE THOSE WRISTS, because sooner or later they're going to send you the bill for all those hours played. I progressed from no skills to being OK with 85% of Pro level songs in about 1-1/2 years. But believe me when I say I pay a price.
Quite often than not I have crapped out on a song because my hand started numbing and/or cramping and said EFF YOU STOP PLAYING. If you got any job with heavy keyboarding, you likely already dealing with enough cramping. If you aren't yet, enjoy it while it lasts-- IT WILL HAPPEN
Anyways, back on subject, what helped me improve into Pro on #ShiningLive was playing Score Battles. I have a tendency to replay only favorite songs, so Score Battles forced me to play different types of songs that had different challenges.
The other thing was speeding up Hard mode to Speed 7. The original speed made the notes be too on top of each other for me and the speed increase helped spread them out so I had better eye/hand coordination.
Keep playing at whatever level is comfortable for you and focus on trying to full combo the songs-- that's how you get more used to slider patterns, quicker taps, etc., -- in the end, like most rhythm games, the repeat play teaches muscle memory. Also remember, TAKE BREAKS!
In time you might find you just outgrow a level and need to step onto the next one. "Hard" became too easy for me, so I moved on to Pro. That said, I feel comfortable in saying I have reached my limit and I'm perfectly happy and will leave the Mastering to others.
It's more than I expected to accomplish for myself and my abused and destroyed carpal tunnel wrists from being an office lady for too long.
As a final note, DON'T FEEL OBLIGATED TO PLAY ON PRO. There's no shame in using auto mode and you gotta take care of those wrists.

I am thankful to my friends that remind me it's okay to auto, especially when I get in gamer nerd mode and I just want to perfect combo a song.
8D besides, I don't want to get a terminal bill from my wrists. I've got a naked chested husbando to keep poking for years to come.
