Something we do not speak about nearly enough is how exhausting it can be for people with lived (and still living!!) experience to be working within the systems that have harmed them so profoundly. It is a very heavy weight to carry.
I think it is easy to forget when you’re on Twitter that more often than not, people find these systems harm-inducing rather than harm-reducing. System-generated trauma is often anticipated as something that just ‘comes with the territory’. To me that’s a cop-out.
When I think about my care journey one thing I notice is how little love or care was afforded to me by the system. There were very few moments where I felt ‘cared for’ in the care system. How incredibly sad when it takes so little to show somebody that you care
The constant pursuit for change is exhausting. The constant fight against a violent system is exhausting. Why should we rely on people who have been harmed to make these systems less harmful?
Just a message to all of those who may be able to resonate: You are doing MORE than enough!!!! It can feel so exhausting, so please take care of yourself❤️
