Really hate how normal it is for furry artists + fursuit makers to have endless queues where they spend all the money before they ever even start work, and then they “can’t” refund people because they don’t have the money.

No, go take out a loan and refund everyone you scammed.
Spending money you haven’t earned is unacceptable. Having a queue you are like five years behind on because you beg for work you don’t intend to finish in a reasonable time to pay your rent every month is unacceptable. Get a day job, you’re not cut out to freelance.
I see this degree of irresponsibility more often than I’d like, and it’s extremely upsetting. If you did something like that in the formal art industry, you’d be blacklisted and no one would hire you ever again (as it should be). We need to stop supporting people who do this.
Any myriad of excuses can never justify missing a promised completion deadline by like SIX MONTHS to a few YEARS where you haven’t even STARTED the work! Haven’t even started the project by the time it’s supposed to be DONE! What if the whole world worked like that??
Like I’m absolutely sure that if someone else did to people like this exactly what THEY do to others with their terrible business practices, they would be absolutely outraged. So why do they allow themselves to do it to others?
Like seriously get a grip. Furries, stop begging for commissions that you’re not going to do any time soon if EVER, because you need to pay rent and you don’t want to work a day job. It doesn’t work like that. You need to actually be responsible and WORK as a freelancer.
As a rule of thumb you should be able to refund any incomplete work at any time. If you can’t, that’s bad business practice. “I already spent the money” shouldn’t be a valid excuse not to refund people. Go take out a loan and refund everyone. Clients aren’t interest-free loans.
