Kazuyuki Hoshino has not only worked on screensaver art but has also did the cover art for the SCD PC release! He also done the iconic S1+S2+SCD character sprites, as well as concept arts for Sonic CD and had part for the SEGA CD cover art. The long nose is obvious!

The Sonic 1 American Box Art was done by Greg Wray rather than Greg Martin! Martin has DONE work for Sonic 1 but that was for the game's poster!

Both worked for Warner Bros and Disney so it's apparent the styles look similar!
