Recently I found this amazing Instagram account: soyouwanttotalkabout.

They break down a ton of complex topics into easy to digest slide decks.

In each deck you learn a TON without it feeling like a lecture.

How do they do this so well?

👇Check out this thread to find out.👇
Let's just get it out of the way, they have some AMAZING designers.

They exactly know how to make you want to read & share each deck.

That's probably why they have 1.5M+ followers.

So let's look at how they use very SIMPLE design choices to break down these COMPLEX topics.
One of the first things I noticed about their posts is:

CONSISTENCY

Just look at how each of the title slides looks almost exactly the same.

They have made this repeatable layout part of their visual brand.

You can instantly recognize one of their shares in your feed.
The consistency continues when you look at fonts & color palettes used.

They love:
- Muted color palettes
- Serif fonts

You will notice that they use those elements on almost every post.

But there's another good reason for this, other than consistency.
Muted colors are pretty trendy right now & a lot of brands are embracing them.

That's because muted colors feel safe, authentic & secure, even nostalgic or genuine to a lot of people.

If you're trying to approach a complex topic, a muted color palette, like below, can help.
Additionally, serif fonts can be used to evoke the same feelings of nostalgia & safety.

But they also can be used to build some instant trust with the reader.

They use these fonts to position their info as very trustworthy from the absolute beginning, & it definitely is!
These design elements also fit the tone of their topics exceptionally well.

Can you imagine if they used bright colors & crazy fonts to talk about topics like:

- The Importance of the Census
- Men's Mental Health
- The Refugee Crisis
- Political Corruption
- & more
I think this combo of nonsense design elements, combined with their consistency, has really helped them be seen as a beacon of great content.

This approach also allows you to REALLY focus on the important content.

Definitely give them a follow: https://www.instagram.com/soyouwanttotalkabout/
Also let me know if you would like to see more of these breakdowns in the future.

These slide decks are so great, I didn't even make it past the first slide!

I plan on breaking down how soyouwanttotalkabout effectively presents so much info in such a small graphic in Part 2.
