"Plenty of trump supporters aren't stupid" is the political analogue of "a lot of intelligent people fall for cults"
it's a touching little sentiment predicated on two things: 1) the milquetoast attempt to coddle the inept in the hopes that it encourages them to improve;
it's a touching little sentiment predicated on two things: 1) the milquetoast attempt to coddle the inept in the hopes that it encourages them to improve;
and 2) the human phenomenon of individuals defining certain qualities differently. It's kind of like how everyone has a very personal definition of love; intelligence is another one of those things that's difficult to quantify, and often falls into ableist/anthropocentric traps.
That being said; having some marginal ability to string a coherent sentence together or to convincingly regurgitate a textbook are mere facsimiles of intelligence - they are not, by any means, a genuine indicator of it.
anyone who doesn't have the critical thinking capacity and foresight to understand and reject the existentially lethal dangers of authoritarian behaviors and eliminationist rhetoric in authority figures and politics, by the simplest definition of the term, cannot be intelligent.
Anyone mentally weak enough to allow their fear to guide their judgments to the degree that it destroys entire populations of people cannot be intelligent.
That is the exact opposite of intelligence.
So let's all stop throwing that word around so freely. Words have meanings.

This thread brought to you by my impatience with center-left galaxybrains who continue to think that extending some level of charity and compassion to these frothing lunatics is going to result in anything other than them taking advantage of and exploiting it. CUT THAT SHIT OUT
