I’m really disheartened that seminary is taking the position of fatigue is normal for ministry - that burn out is welcome for the sake of loving God and neighbor well. A staff member just posted something to this extent & I am undone. There is a better way.
The staff member post this after many students expressed a need to collaborate on virtual learning & care for this season. I was one of this students. Y’all I’m angry. Ministry isn’t about running yourself into the ground.
Jesus moved his body throughout his entire ministry - he sat, he ate, he slept, he felt, he said no, he said yes - he was human. He did not practice a capitalistic ministry that operated on how much can you squeeze from your soul. Y’all I am so undone rn.
This idea of how ministry is done has deeply hurt me and traumatized me as a queer person. To make my body a martyr - I’m signing off today to cry, to re group - but as always I share my stories as conviction to the larger movement: Joy, love & equity ✊🏼
