Equity in Action by @MizzBossLadyDee! Incredibly moving and inspiring morning #ACTcon2020 keynote, giving us so much to think about (thread 👇)
1. Incrementalism, in forms of performative allyship/equity, will not fix systemic racism.

@Twins and @Vikings called out for offering small scholarships and "support" in exchange for a photo-op with BIPOC youth for their own marketing.

They can do better. They can do more.
2. We need to get comfortable being uncomfortable.

Let's have those hard discussions, ask tough questions, accept criticisms. These are required to continue growing, learning, and moving forward.

Move away from Minnesota nice in equity work.
3. We can hold two truths (or three or four) at the same time.

You can have a BIPOC friend, and still be racist

You can be a good person and still perpetuate systemic inequity.

Hold the nuance and the contradictions in this work.
4. We built the system and maintain it. We make systemic racism work. We must disrupt it by...

Being transparent
Trusting in communities and letting them lead
Questioning everything
Centering youth, BIPOC at decision making tables
Paying people for their expertise
5. The problem is wealth and opportunity hoarding, not poverty.

Instead of asking what they need... just send money. They always need money.

6. Get your people and WEED 'em out.

Reject the idea that it is "impolite" to talk politics with your family, co-workers, friends, colleagues.
7. Believe in youth. Believe that a new way is possible.
