UPDATE: this naturopath has removed her ad and apologized for not knowing that "family medicine" is a distinct medical specialty and not simply health care terminology to be borrowed and redefined at will.

If only this were the end of the story...

Rules on naturopath representation vary regionally. In BC, the rules are clear: DO NOT misrepresent yourself as a medical specialist, even with a "naturopathic" modifier.

Here is a statement from 2015 by @cpsbc_ca on the use of "naturopathic oncologist."
So here's my question, @CNP_BC: what are you doing to inform your members about the rules around representation?

Is this member who was unaware that "family medicine" is a medical specialty an outlier amongst BC naturopaths?
A 5 min Google of "british columbia" and "naturopathic family physician" reveals that many other @CNP_BC members seem equally misinformed about how to legally advertise.
@CNP_BC, has there been ANY communication to your membership about misrepresentation as medical specialists? Like to this member here, for example?
@CNP_BC, would this member of also claim to be unaware that she's not allowed to call herself a family physician without completing a residency in family medicine?
@FamPhysCan wrote a letter to @CNP_BC back in March, laying out clearly why "family medicine" is not a term to be misappropriated. @BCCFP wrote a similar letter.

@FamPhysCan, the family physicians you represent overwhelmingly support nationwide protection of "family medicine" as a title. When are we going to see action on this issue?
