I recently had an experience with a recruiter who contacted me regarding a major MB cultural institution. Their email intro stated they were wondering if I had any "thoughts or suggestions for candidates" & that "we would be keen to find Indigenous candidates for this role"
Although I already knew I had been recommended as a candidate, I clarified that they were not interested in ME applying and solely were asking for contact information for Indigenous cultural professionals in my network.
If you work for an institution that is looking for qualified Indigenous candidates to engage with through your recruitment process, THIS IS NOT THE WAY TO DO IT.

(a thread)
Step 1: Hiring a firm from Toronto to engage with local Manitoba leaders is not the way to do it.

Step 2: Engaging an all-white-all-male HR firm is not the way to do it.

Step 3: Asking Indigenous women to do the work for you is not the way to do it.
Step 4: Adding "Indigenous candidates welcome" to an unwelcoming email is not the way to do it.

In closing, All of this indicates that this is a workplace that is uninterested in engaging in the structural change necessary to function and succeed in 2020.

Best of luck!
