I'm genuinely shocked & saddened by this coaching change.

Financially, it make sense. She still represents Sambo-70 so her coaching costs would be fully covered by the RusFed and the club (I explain a bit about the funding model below). https://twitter.com/LiftLoopLunge/status/1295162690734895108?s=20
She legally isn't a permanent resident of Canada & it would be nearly impossible for her to fly back there before 2021. Even if she did manage to return, she would have to forego the entire season.
This arrangement benefits Sambo-70 and Eteri&co the most. The school already receives funding from the RusFed since Zhenya is a national team member. Now, the coaches will receive 30-40% of her earnings (including shows, sponsorship, etc.) and the school will receive a larger cut
Moreover, if Zhenya missed the entire season, there is a good chance that she would lose her spot on the national team. Which would mean even *less* funding & possibly losing out on international competition assignments. Logistically & politically, this decision makes sense.
In regards to her physical, emotional and psychological well-being? I'm INCREDIBLY worried.
I think it's also important to note that:

a) Zhenya is the only member of the national team who was paying for most of her coaching fees.

b) A major source of income for skaters of her caliber are from shows - most of which were cancelled due to the pandemic.
