HOORAY!

The #PS5Showcase day has arrived!

IT IS:

1) A BIG day for PlayStation.
2) A BIG day for Sony.
3) A BIG day for GAMERS.

Whatever happens next, gamers have WON.

And PS. The price doesn't matter.

Why?

TODAY IS A BIG DAY FOR PLAYSTATION.

It is inarguable that the PS4 won the most recent generation when it came to gamers.

PS4 has outsold Xbox 2-1 globally and in some regions as much as 4-1.

Utterly mental. https://gamingbolt.com/ps4-outselling-xbox-one-by-41-in-germany
With that amount of MONSTER success, with that amount of AMAZING win, comes a HUGE amount of pressure.

PlayStation has made itself is a tough act to follow.

And the competition are not going to sit around...
- @Xbox, rightly and brilliantly, has not taken that beating lying down and has come back stronger, better, more focused on *the gamer* than ever before.

They are undoubtedly AHEAD OF THE GAME.

That in turn means PlayStation has to step it up.

This is *fantastic* for all.
Bear in mind, today's #PS5Showcase is only the SECOND official #PS5 event Sony has hosted.

Whereas @Xbox has faced down leaks, rolled out prices, console variants, new services, and - perhaps crucially - has got a pre-order date out in-market already.

Gamers are primed.
I say again:

~ ~ The expectations on #PS5 to deliver are HIGH ~ ~

From the industry and from the fans.
(no pressure then)
TODAY IS A BIG DAY FOR SONY.

Seems odd to separate the Sony mothership from PlayStation but it's important that we do, as you'll see.

Rewind to May 2018 and Sony's CEO John Kodera announced that the PS4 "was in the final phase of its lifecycle". https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/newsbeat-44223879
Another quote:

"We will use the next three years to prepare the next step, to crouch down so that we can jump higher in the future."

- Tsuyoshi “John” Kodera, May 2018.
When a CEO says something like that, you might think it's close to Gerald Ratner levels of shooting down the golden goose before the next one arrives.

But since then Sony has delivered SMASH after SMASH after SMASH. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-46028892
And then, to further underline the importance of PlayStation to SONY as a whole, you only have to take a cursory glance at the earnings reports.

Alright Covid has been kind to gaming but this is absurd.
In short:

PlayStation is VERY IMPORTANT to Sony.

Arguably the most important.
TODAY IS A BIG DAY FOR GAMERS.
Today we [hopefully] get to find out the next/final piece of the next gen puzzle.

What more can we see (expect first titles galore - more Spidey, perhaps something else killer and unannounced, maybe an overhaul of services) and how will that inform our choices this Christmas.
With Xbox Series S/X in play, gamers are SPOILT for choice.

On a budget and don't care for 4K?

The Xbox Series S w/All Access and GamePass is your way forward.

Want 4K but don't mind missing out on Sony's titles?

Get the Xbox Series X.
But if you don't want either of those or if you're completely wedded into Sony's ecosystem and want the reassurance / value of next gen? Then you already probably know that the #PS5 is for you.

But I say again: you are spoilt for choice.
(it has never been a better time to be a gamer)
And finally, here's the biggie:

THE PRICING STRATEGY DOESN'T / WON'T MATTER.
So look, there has been a TON of talk about Xbox under-cutting everything and everyone with the Series S. It is an incredible offer.

As a result, speculation is abound about Sony perhaps 'panicking' and having to cut its own original RRP.

I think that's BS.
For two reasons:

First, you've got to take into account the fact that PlayStation *sees itself* as the number one gaming brand in the world.

For them, they're bringing the best games and therefore marketing logic denotes you would put a premium on that opportunity.
The more I think about it the more I think they'll stick to the top end price match.

So that's $399/$499 US and ÂŁ349 and ÂŁ449 UK.
(But it doesn't matter)
Reason 2.

As long as it's under the ÂŁ500 mental barrier then it'll be acceptable.

There are sweet spots. Of course there are.

But ÂŁ50 either way with game bundles no doubt already being put together by retailers?

The differences are negligible.
The key point is: IT DOESN'T MATTER.

249.
399.
449.
499.

Gamers will buy the machine they want, by hook or by crook. The important part is: whatever your range and ambition, there is a solution for you.

And that's something gamers haven't had I don't think really ever.
It is a GREAT time to be a gamer!

Roll on 9pm.

Let's see what PlayStation can bring to the party and then let's get excited. Xbox or PS5 or PC or any mixture of all three - it doesn't matter.

#PS5Showcase
Gaming is awesome.

Next gen is nearly here...

So climb on board the hype train and strap in. The next gen is arriving, and everyone has as ticket.

WOOO WOOOOOOO!
