After a stillbirth, the grave is dug by women, grieving is not allowed & men do not participate in any way. The shallow grave is almost always scavenged by stray dogs.

The woman must carry the dead baby on her back to the grave.

Religiously, the foetus is also considered non human therefore there are no religious funeral rites. No prayers, no mourning, nothing. It is as if nothing has happened.

One also has the option of a hospital incineration, there is no grave, no ceremony, no mourning. Just the deep hole the woman has in the entire process.

Men are not involved. It is purely a women's affair. It is almost like your husband, community and church are embarrassed that you had a still birth.

Still born babies also have their own grave yard. They are not buried with the rest of the community because they do not exist.

Let us not be hypocritical. If we want to protect the rights of the unborn baby regardless of the circumstances or health of mother + child, let us also give the still born baby the same rights as any other baby.
