A group of Philly DSA members has proposed creating a Mutual Aid Committee. Chapters from @nycDSA to @DSA_LosAngeles to @MetroATLDSA are doing important mutual aid work, but @PhillyDSA isn't yet. Tons of Philly orgs are also doing mutual aid, but Philly DSA isn't yet.
We think that needs to change. Mutual aid is inherently political and is a key strategy for building a mass socialist movement. Other DSA chapters (and other local Philly organizations) are using it to improve material conditions in their communities, and in the process...
politicize the working class, build solidarity among organizers and activist institutions, and demonstrate the power of collective action and ownership in a concrete way.
Especially during a pandemic where the ruling class has chosen to further enrich itself and worsen an already dire situation, the time for Philly DSA to act is now.
If you're a Philly DSA member and agree that we should be doing mutual aid work, show up for our general meeting on October 3 at noon to vote for the resolution. You can RSVP for the Zoom link here: https://www.phillydsa.org/gm_10032020
Please fill out this vote pledge to let us know you're with us, and to let us know if you want to be involved in the Mutual Aid Committee's work! And of course, share it with your friends and on social media: http://bit.ly/phlmutualaid
