We strongly encourage all gym owners, coaches, parents and athletes to learn more about this topic. Don’t be afraid to discuss it or ask questions.
Parents.. have tough conversations with your athletes. Athletes ... be on the lookout for any changes in your friends. Coaches ... hold yourself & your peers accountable. Gym owners.. don’t be afraid to set tough expectations on behaviour, training & job requirements.
This topic needs to be out loud. It’s needs to be mainstream. It needs to be part of EVERY conversation. It should be prioritized & considered at every juncture. Talking about this is NOT a bad this. It means we are being open, transparent and solution oriented.
As our sport grows & matures we have undertaken many initiatives as an industry in the best interests of athletes :
◦Safety Rules & Regulations
◦Age divisions
◦Coaching certifications
◦Education & Training
◦Insurance requirements
This topic should be no different and should NEVER become political. Programs, coaches and industry leaders should all be able to agree on this.
Athlete protection happens in many different ways. Abuse comes in many shapes and forms. As a community we have so much to learn and now that we KNOW BETTER we must DO BETTER.
Sports are better organized and there are ample resources available to us. This is not a cheerleading thing... it’s a young people in sports everywhere thing.
It’s time for our entire industry WORLD WIDE to look at ourselves and our operations in order to make significant, immediate and impactful change.
