Starting my #GameboysTheSeries re-watch thread where I'll revisit each episode but in the context of the season as a whole.

Also, it's something to do while waiting for #PearlNextDoor haha. I'm still trying to figure out my thread format for this - it's going to get messy LOL
#GameBoysEp1 Re-Watch - Pass or Play
Wow, remember when these things were just 10 minutes? Then we got to end things with a 40+ minute episode? That's growth! (1/x)
#GameboysEp1
In less than minute, they establish so much about the show's format, who Cairo is and what his world is like. And they nicely captured the whole game streamer concept in a creative visual format. Super modern storytelling.

First, forgot to tag the previous post as (2/x)
Second, not directly about the show, but the visualization used across #GameboysTheSeries always reminds me of the ideas raised in this old Every Frame a Painting Video. (3/x)
#GameboysEp1
As far as introductions go, this was pretty clever and it was a motif that reinforced the visual narrative format of the series - we are going to be looking over their shoulders as they engage on social media. Luckily, they use their names in their email (4/x)
#GameboysEp1
Gotta appreciate that Cai doesn't immediately add Gav back. Don't we all screen our social media friends? (5/x)
#GameboysEp1
Super contrived, but it ties to the inherent humor of the series. Sure, they wanted to depict Gav as coming on strong. But also, it was a message to viewers that the show wasn't going to hold back either. (6/x)
#Gameboys1
I had forgotten how quiet the episodes used to be. LOL You can really tell that the production was still growing into its own and the actors were still getting used to things as well (7/x)
#Gameboys1
Our first clue to Cai's strained relations with his family. Foreshadowing! Also, I appreciate how you can use the COVID case count to time-place set the show. (8/x)
#Gamesboys1
Another bit of visual storytelling cleverness - when the boys start stalking each other's social media. Very well done and very contemporary. (9/x)
#Gameboys1
Gav was super annoying in this first episode haha. (10/x)
#GameboysEp1
Wow, so many hashtag typos in this thread LOL.
Anyway, super got a kick out of the kids being named London, Cairo, and Paris. What a strange European tour. (11/x)
#GameboysEp1
The devil pose that we'll never get out of our heads. (12/x)
#GameboysEp1
I still can't get over the fact that moments like this were just one-sided and they weren't actually acting off of one another. As early as now, it really felt like there was a strong connection. (13/x)
#GameboysEp1
Where we begin the grand #Gameboys tradition of including the title of the episode as a line of character dialog. Also, Cai really swirled his tongue around before answering "Play."
Also, also, the show always stresses that consent is important! (14/x)
#GameboysEp1
This was a really tight pilot that set up the premise very quickly, established the show's visual narrative, and put everything on the table right away. There's no BL-style ambiguity here - Gav likes Cai and is actively going to pursue him. (15/15)
#GameboysEp1 POST SCRIPT
Was this a Cai-flex foreshadowing? Hahaha (16/15)
