Hi, I’ve had a bit of an influx in followers recently after #disabledandsexy so I thought I’d reintroduce myself - HI I’m Lucy, I’m 24 from Lincolnshire & I have a Criminology degree which i almost didn’t get cos during my 3rd year of uni I became ill with a brain disease

My behaviour became completely wild & unexplainable, going from being horrendously depressed to manic and frantic and one morning my housemate found me rocking backwards & forwards screaming her name robotically...long story short I was taken to hospital...

I was misdiagnosed as having had a mental breakdown, so I was put in a psychiatric ward for 3 months and treated for a fictional mental illness, meaning the brain disease went completely untreated... so I started to die

On my 21st bday, doctors told my parents... she’s gonna die and we don’t know why so as a last ditch effort we can give her electro shock therapy. At this point I was catatonic, my body had shut down, I was like a toddler personality wise ...

The ECT by some MIRACLE triggered seizures which SOMEHOW worked towards resetting my brain. I was put back on a ward bed and left alone, I had an almighty seizure & fell out of the bed and on to an open radiator pipe (I was catatonic still so couldn’t feel my body) so I just

laid on the pipe burning away very long story short, the pipe burnt through my sciatic nerve and left me permanently paralysed in my left leg. But when I say long story I’m talking 2/3 years long of trying to work out wtf happened.

SO, 21 I was suddenly disabled and also now had an acquired brain injury. I had to relearn absolutely everything from scratch, walking, talking, reading, writing, typing, texting, doing makeup, socialising, BEING etc. But hey yeah I went back to uni n graduated and here I am

24, living on my own, self employed and signed as a disabled model. IT WAS AN unbelievable fate and trust me I have been to the depths of hell and back from the trauma/ grief etc. But yes. here i am

Oh yes! Should also mention that the disease I had is called Anti NDMA Receptor Autoimmune Encephalitis, which is inflammation caused by antibodies produced by the bodies own immune system attacking the brain.
