It’s mean to pick on one tweeter but the shift in unionism from “you can be Scottish and British, the union guarantees and respects diversity” to “why don’t you see that we Britons are all the same?” is quite remarkable. The former was a winning formula. Is the latter?
Of course Scotland and England have huge similarities. So do Scotland and Ireland. And England and Denmark. And Italy and Scotland. But sometimes what, on global terms, are minor differences can be defining. And if you want a union you have to recognise and accommodate these.
