Been wanting to do this for a while so here are my thoughts on #NoStraightRoads !
(I will be a little biased here because it's a Malaysian-made game. My Heart Is Warm and I'm doing this on Malaysia Day :D)
Overall rating: 7.5/10
The game is visually stunning, there are only BANGERS for the music. However, the battle aspect does lack quite a fair bit and the story went by a bit too fast for my taste.
As a warning, I will be a little nitpicky here and I will only be talking about the things that I [personally] think I need to comment on. I have only played the base game solo so feel free to tell me more about the other battle modes and/or co-op!!!
It's also my first time reviewing a game so I'm sorry it's a little messy ;---;
VA: The voice acting needed to be more consistent for the lovely Mayday. Some portions of dialogue were spoken without the Malaysian accent while other sections did and personally, it felt a little disjointed.
DIALOGUE : I played this game on stream ( http://twitch.tv/cyrannx ) and having the accents and small bits of BM in there made me so happy (bless u kopitiam aunty). Being able to share my country's culture with the people who watched my streams made me uwu for lack of a better word.
STORY: Like I said, the story went by way too fast. I felt like I was speed running the game because there wasn't enough content to supplement the play time and this will tie into another point I will make in the later on.
WORLD: Walking through Vinyl City gave me major Persona 5 vibes. There are so many cool nooks and crannies in the maps that really scratched my "COLLECT AND SEE EVERYTHING!!!" itch. The maps for each district were unique and So Pretty I wish there was more to explore in each.
GAMEPLAY (1/3): I'm neutral on the fighting in this game because there are goods and bads to it. Hitting enemies felt weighty enough and the feeling of being able to parry to the beat of the music was very satisfying. However, this adds to my point of how there isn't-
GAMEPLAY (2/3): -enough story to explain the other fighting mechanics. I didn't like that you're expected to learn other attacks like finishers, mods, duet etc. by reading instead of doing. Another thing is that I expected to be able to finish upgrading the skill tree by the end-
GAMEPLAY (3/3): -because it's an indicator to me of how much game I have left to play. To my knowledge, this game tried to balance it so that people who don't like fighting games/people who aren't musically inclined can still play comfortably, it became messy.
This thread is getting a little long and I'd like to talk about the bosses more so I'll be making a separate thread for them! https://twitter.com/cyrannx/status/1306141945610158080?s=19
