First is the 20-20-20 RULE. After 20 minutes of looking at screen, rest your eyes for 20 seconds by looking at anything 20 feet away from you. This is proven effective and is backed by studies as a way of preventing eye strain.
Digital eye strain is a real bummer. But, why does it happen? Normally, our eyes blink 15x per min. When looking at screens, this is reduced to up to 5x per min. This causes your eyes to dry and tire up, and be irritated. To avoid that, repetitive breaks from screens are advised.
Hence, the 20-20-20 rule. Why 20 secs and 20 feet? It takes about 20 secs for our eye muscles to relax completely. Also, looking far away causes the muscles to relax. It does not need to be exactly 20 feet, just look really far.
The 20-20-20 rule is easy to do. Your prof won’t even notice it. But, what if you’re in an enclosed room? Closing your eyes will help. When we close our eyes, the muscles also tend to relax. If possible, try to go out or look out your window for your 20-20-20 break.
During these breaks, you may also want to drink water and stay hydrated. Keeping yourself hydrated helps in keeping your eyes well lubricated. You may also consciously blink, to keep your eyes from drying.
You should also remember to work in comfortable lighting, not too high, not too low. Remember to match you screen brightness to the lighting in your room to lessen contrast. You may also use matte screen filters to lessen glare.
It is also advised that you keep an armlength or 25 inches distance from the screen, and position the screen in your line of sight or in such a way that you won’t be looking down or up that much. Ergonomics is https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="🔑" title="Schlüssel" aria-label="Emoji: Schlüssel"> .
Don’t position the fan or aircon directly blowing to your face. The gush of air actually contributes to faster drying of the eyes. Or, just sit away from them.
Regularly clean your screens. Wipe off the dirt, prints and smudges. They can make your eyes strain worse. Do the same with your glasses/lenses if you have one. And, please, wear the right lenses na swak sa grado mo. Wearing incorrect ones will make your vision deteriorate more.
These hacks are not just for students but also for anyone who works or spends ample to huge amounts of time in front of screens.

During these times, it is imperative that we take care of our eyes. I hope the above tips help. Keep safe everyone. https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="☺️" title="Lächelndes Gesicht" aria-label="Emoji: Lächelndes Gesicht">
