Did Shaykh Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab innovate the 10 nullifiers of Islam?
We often hear this claim by opponents of MIAW that he innovated these 10 nullifiers and how these nullifiers cause fitnah and extremism and is a dangerous ideology to have and all sorts of claims to attack the shaykh I will show here that this is not the case these 10 nullifiers
were not innovated by MIAW they actually existed way before him and come from the Quran and Sunnah not him we will also look at what other scholars have said about the nullifiers inshallah

1st nullifier- Shirk in the worship of Allah

“Verily, whosoever sets up partners in
worship with Allah, then Allah has forbidden Paradise for him, and the Fire will be his abode. And for the Zalimoon (polytheists and wrongdoers) there are no helpers”
[al-Maa’idah 5:72]

“Verily Allah does not forgive that partners be associated with Him in worship (Shirk), but
He forgives what is less than that to whom He wills.” [Surah An-Nisaa: 116]

“Shirk causes all of one’s good deeds to be cancelled out as well. Allaah says:
“And had they mixed partners in worship with Allaah (i.e. committed Shirk), they would have cancelled out (all the good of
) what they used to do.” [Surah Al- An’aam: 88]

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (RH) said:
“The basis of shirk is when you equate Allah with his creation in terms of some of that which he alone deserves to have ascribed to Him because no one ever equated anything to Allah in all
respects. So whoever worships anything other than Him or puts his trust in that thing is a mushrik who has associated something else with Him”

Ibn Abd al-Hadi (RH) said:
“If a person comes to the bier of a dead person and calls upon him instead
of Allah and seeking his help this is shirk and is haraam according to Muslim consensus”

2nd nullifier- Setting up intermediaries between a person and Allah

“And those who take supporters besides Allah, they say: ‘We don’t worship them
except for the purpose of bringing us closer to Allah.’” [Surah Az-Zumar: 3]

“Verily, Allah will judge between them concerning what they used to differ in. Surely, Allah does not guide he who is a liar, and a hardened disbeliever.” [Surah Az-Zumar: 3]

“And they worship besides
Allah things that hurt them not, nor profit them, and they say: ‘These are our intercessors with Allah.’ Say: ‘Do you inform Allah of that which He knows not in the heavens and on the earth?’ Glorified and Exalted be He above all that which they associate as partners
with Him!”
[Yoonus 10:18]

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (RH) said:
“Whoever makes the angels and Prophets intermediaries, calling upon them, putting his trust in them, asking them to bring benefits and ward off harm – such as asking them for forgiveness of sins, guidance,
relief of distress and meeting of needs – is a disbeliever according to Muslim consensus”

al-Mirdaawi (RH)
“The same ruling applies if he makes intermediaries between himself and Allah, putting his trust in them, calling upon them and asking
of them. That is according to scholarly consensus”

Source- al-Insaaf (10/327)

3rd nullifier- Belief that the Mushrikeen (Non Muslims) are not disbelievers

“You indeed have a good example in Ibrahim and those with him, when they said to their people: ‘Verily we are free from
you and whatever you worship besides Allah We have rejected you and there has appeared hostility and hatred between us and you forever until you believe in Allah alone.’” [Surah Al- Mumtahanah: 4]

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (RH)
“The views of these groups are worse than
the views of the Christians, and contain contradictions similar to those in the views of the Christians. Therefore sometimes they speak of divine incarnation, and sometimes of the oneness of all that exists. So it is a view that is self-contradictory. Therefore they confuse the
one who does not understand it, and all of this is disbelief, inside and out, according to the consensus of every Muslim. Whoever doubts that these people are disbelievers after coming to know their views and coming to know the religion of Islam, is himself a disbeliever, like
the one who doubts that the Jews, Christians and polytheists are disbelievers”

Source-Majmoo‘ al-Fataawa (2/368)

Al-Qaadi ‘Iyaad (RH)
“There is consensus that one who does not regard any of the Jews and Christians as disbelievers, or does not regard anyone who leaves the
religion of the Muslims as a disbeliever, or does not take a stand with regard to this issue, or is unsure about it is himself a disbeliever

Source- ash-Shifa’ (2/281)

Imam An-Nawawi (RH) "who does not call a non-Muslim a disbeliever or doubts their disbelief or approves of
their belief, then he himself is a disbeliever, even if he says he is Muslim, and even if he believes that Islam is the correct belief"

Source- Rawdat at-Tālibīn 10/70

4th nullifier- The belief that other teachings and judgments is better than the Prophet’s ﷺ
teaching and judgement (accepting the ruling other than what Allah has revealed)

“And so judge (O Muhammad) among them by what Allah has revealed”
[al-Maa’idah 5:49]

“Indeed, We sent down the Torah, in which was guidance and light. The prophets who submitted [to Allah ]
judged by it for the Jews, as did the rabbis and scholars by that with which they were entrusted of the Scripture of Allah, and they were witnesses thereto. So do not fear the people but fear Me, and do not exchange My verses for a small price. And whoever does not judge by what
Allah has revealed - then it is those who are the disbelievers.”
[al-Maa’idah 5:44]

“But no, by your Lord, they can have no Faith, until they make you (O Muhammad) judge in all disputes between them, and find in themselves no resistance against your decisions, and accept (them)
with full submission”
[al-Nisa’ 4:65]

Shaykh ibn Baaz (RH) said:
“This category includes those who believe that the systems and laws invented by people are superior to the sharee‘ah of Islam, or that they are equal to it, or that it is permissible to refer to them for
judgement, even if they believe that judging according to sharee‘ah is preferable; and those who believe that the Islamic system is not fit to be applied in the twentieth century, or that it was a cause of the Muslims’ decline, or that it should be limited to a person’s
relationship with his Lord, and should have nothing to do with other matters of life that also includes those who think that implementing the rulings of Allah with regard to cutting off the hand of the thief or stoning the previously-married adulterer is not appropriate in the
present age. And it also includes everyone who believes that it is permissible to rule by something other than the laws of Allah in the case of transactions, hudood punishments, and other matters, even if they do not believe that that is preferable to the ruling of sharee‘ah,
because by doing that they are regarding as permissible that which Allah has prohibited, according to scholarly consensus, and whoever regards as permissible that which Allah has prohibited, and that is one of the well-known fundamental teachings of the religion – such as zina,
alcohol, riba, and ruling by something other than the laws of Allah – is a disbeliever according to Muslim consensus.

Imam Ibn al-Jawzi (RH) said: "And the decisive speech in this regard is that whoever does not judge by
what Allah has revealed; while rejecting it (in belief) and he knows that it is Allah who revealed it -as the Jews did- then he is a disbeliever. And whoever does not judge by what Allah has revealed; inclining to his desires without rejecting it (in belief) then he is a dhalim
, fasiq and it has been reported from Ali bin Abu Talhah from Ibn Abbas (ra) that he said: "Whoever rejects (jahada) what Allah has revealed then he has disbelieved, and whoever affirms it (aqarra bihi) but does not judge by it; then he is a dhalim, a fasiq."

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (RH) "Whenever a person makes halal what is haram by consensus or makes haraam what is halaal by consensus or replaces the shari'ah that is agreed upon by consensus, then he is a kafir by the agreement of the scholars of fiqh."
Source- Majmu al-Fatawa, 3/267

5th nullifier- Hating anything of the Prophet’s ﷺ message despite practicing it

“That is because they hate that which Allah has sent down (this Quran and Islamic laws, etc.), so He has made their deeds fruitless”
[Muhammad 47:9]

ibn
Battah (RH) “If a man was to believe in everything that the Prophet ﷺ brought except for one matter in which he opposed, then he is a kafir by agreement of the scholars.”

6th nullifier- Making fun of/mocking/ridiculing any part of Islam

“Say
was it Allah and His verses and His Messenger that you were mocking? Make no excuses, you have disbelieved after having had faith.” [Surah At-Tawbah: 65-66]

Shaykh al-Islam ibn Taymiyah (RH)
“When some of them made fun of (the believers) and said concerning those with whom
Allah is pleased, “We have never seen anyone like our people who are well-versed in the Qur’an when it comes to eating more or telling more lies or being more cowardly when meeting the enemy,” Allah revealed the words (interpretation of the meaning):
“The hypocrites fear lest a
Soorah (chapter of the Quran) should be revealed about them, showing them what is in their hearts. Say: "(Go ahead and) mock! But certainly Allah will bring to light all that you fear.’
If you ask them (about this), they declare: ‘We were only talking idly and joking.’ Say: ‘
Was it at Allah, and His Ayaat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) and His Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) that you were mocking?
Make no excuse; you have disbelieved after you had believed. If We pardon some of you, We will
punish others amongst you because they were Mujrimoon (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, criminals, etc.)”
[al-Munaafiqoon 9:64].
Allah informed them that they had disbelieved after having believed, even though they said, “We say words of disbelief without believing in them;
rather we were just talking idly and joking.” He explained that mocking the revelations of Allah constitutes kufr, and such words cannot be uttered except by someone who is content with such words, for if he had faith in his heart, it would have prevented him from saying such
words”

Ibn Hazm (RH) “Therefore, based on what we mentioned, anyone who insults Allah , The Exalted, or mocks Him, or insults an angel or mocks him, or insults a Prophet or mocks him, or insults a verse or sign of Allah or mocks it - indeed, all the
divine laws and the Quran are signs of Allaah - he is declared a disbeliever and apostate, and the rulings pertaining to the apostate apply to him. This is the view that we adopt, and success is only from Allah”

Shaykh Ibn Baaz (RH)
“All the scholars
are unanimously agreed that if the Muslim reviles or criticises the religion, or reviles or criticizes the Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), or ridicules him, then he is an apostate and a disbeliever, who may be executed and his wealth seized”
Source- Fataawa Noor ‘ala ad-Darb (1/139)

7th nullifier- Sihr (sorcery, witchcraft) performing or approving of it and the belief in sorcerers, astrology, fortune tellers, etc

“neither of these two (angels) taught anyone (such things) till they had said, ‘We are only for trial,
so disbelieve not (by learning this magic from us)’”
[al-Baqarah 2:102]

And they followed [instead] what the devils had recited during the reign of Solomon. It was not Solomon who disbelieved, but the devils disbelieved, teaching people magic and that which was revealed to the
two angels at Babylon, Harut and Marut. But the two angels do not teach anyone unless they say, "We are a trial, so do not disbelieve [by practicing magic]." And [yet] they learn from them that by which they cause separation between a man and his wife. But they do not harm anyone
through it except by permission of Allah. And the people learn what harms them and does not benefit them. But the Children of Israel certainly knew that whoever purchased the magic would not have in the Hereafter any share. And wretched is that for which they sold themselves,
if they only knew [Al-Baqarah 2:102]

Abu Hurairah (RA)
"The Messenger of Allah (saw) said: 'Whoever has intercourse with a menstruating woman, or with a woman in her rear, or who goes to a fortune teller and believes what he says, he has disbelieved in that which was revealed
to the Prophet ﷺ

Al-Haafiz Ibn Katheer (RH) said:
That is, (the jinn said): We thought that we had some superiority over humans, because they use to seek protection with us, i.e.,
if they halted in a valley or lonely place in the wilderness and so on, as was the custom of the Arabs during the Jaahiliyyah. They would seek protection with the jinn master of the place, lest they harm them in any way, just as one of them would enter his enemy’s land
under the protection of a prominent man. When the jinn saw that humans would seek their protection because they were afraid of them, “they (jinns) increased them (mankind) in sin and disbelief” which resulted from the increase in their fear and terror, to the extent that they
became even more afraid of them and sought their protection even more, as Qataadah said: “they (jinns) increased them (mankind) in sin and disbelief” that is, in transgression, and that made the jinn even more audacious towards them”

8th nullifier- Supporting the Mushrikeen (disbelievers) and helping them against the Muslims

“And if any amongst you takes them (disbelievers) as Auliya (friends, protectors, helpers, etc.), then surely he is one of them. Verily, Allah guides not those people who are the
Zalimoon (polytheists and wrongdoers and unjust).”
[al-Maa’idah 5:51]

“O you who believe! Do not take My enemies and your enemies as allies extending to them affection while they have disbelieved in what has come to you of the truth, having driven out the Messenger and
yourselves only because you believe in Allah, your Lord.” [Al-Mumtahanah 60:1]

At-Tabari (RH)
“Do not, O believers, take the disbelievers as a source of help and support or ally yourself with them in support of their religion, supporting them against the Muslims instead of the
believers, and telling them about the Muslims’ weak points, for whoever does that “will never be helped by Allah in any way”. What is meant is that he has disavowed Allah and Allah has disavowed him because of his apostasy from His religion and his becoming a disbeliever. “
except if you indeed fear a danger from them” [Aal ‘Imraan 3:28], that is, unless you are under their rule and you fear that they may kill you, so you pay lip service to giving them support, whilst concealing enmity towards them in your hearts, and you do not support them in what
they are following of disbelief or help them against any Muslim in any way”

Muslims – then how about those who have joined the enemies of Allah and His Messenger to fight the Muslims?”

9th nullifier- Believing that it is permissible for some people to be free from implementing the Shari’ah

“And
whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted of him, and in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers”
[Aal ‘Imraan 3:85].

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (RH) said:
“It is well known in Islam, and all the Muslims are unanimously agreed, that whoever
thinks that any religion other than Islam is valid, or that following a set of laws other than the laws of Muhammad (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) is acceptable, is a disbeliever. This is like the disbelief of one who believes in part of the Qur’an and disbelieves
in part of the Qur’an”

Source- al-Fataawa al-Kubra (3/543)

10th nullifier- Turning away from the religion of Allah (Islam) and not learning it and not acting in accordance with it

“And who does more wrong than he who is reminded of the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses,
lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) of his Lord, then he turns aside therefrom? Verily, We shall exact retribution from the Mujrimoon (criminals, disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, etc.)”
[as-Sajdah 32:22]

“But whosoever turns away from My Reminder (i.e. neither believes in
this Quran nor acts on its orders, etc.) verily, for him is a life of hardship, and We shall raise him up blind on the Day of Resurrection”
[Taa-Haa 20:124]

“Whoever disbelieves in Allah after his belief... except for one who is forced [to renounce his religion] while his heart
is secure in faith. But those who [willingly] open their breasts to disbelief, upon them is wrath from Allah, and for them is a great punishment” [Surah An-Nahl 16:106]

Ibn al-Qayyim (RH) said:
“With regard to the “disbelief of turning away”, it means
turning away from the Messenger and ignoring him, neither believing him nor disbelieving him, neither taking him as an ally nor taking him as an enemy, and not paying any attention to what he brought at all”
