(1/?)Here is what's wrong w/ mainstream media. It's not "fake" the way some oversimplify it. Basically everything you read is "true" in MSM reporting. However, what stories get covered vs not covered? How are they framed? Who is interviewed? What facts are included vs left out?
(2/?)There are so many problems w/ how media is constructed as it is. The first is that higher-ups tend to rub elbows w/ the ruling class. Many have run in the same elite circles. So there's already more sympathy for the sorts of ppl they know than for the average person
(3/?)On top of that, even for those who want to be more fair, there is the fact that the rest of the MSM world is so full of sycophants for power that, if News Source A wants to cover things more complexly while Sources B-Z are gonna be sycophants, Source A risks severing all
(4/?)of its ties to the ppl it poses any challenge to, even if it's a mild one.

Ofc, a big thing preventing anyone from reaching the place where they begin to question this structure is that many ppl working in media who aren't even at the top enjoy material comfort & are
(5/?)products of a generally center-left ideological system that says that the institutions of the US work/are good, even if they should be made more inclusive. So they have buy-in both materially & ideologically to not challenge things, mixed again w/ the threat of lost connects
(6/?)Then, on top of that, your news station has sponsors. Ofc you're not gonna wanna cover anything bad about them! Plus, if they're doing something bad to non-middle class ppl, then you don't even know those ppl & can't see the harm you're doing. Who cares?
(7/?)Finally, you also gotta make sure throughout all of this you give way to what will allow high ratings, which usually means spectacle. So are you gonna air that boring story about white collar crimes, or crazy murders & thefts & drugs?
(8/?)Anyway, all of this is to say, CNN & MSNBC & every other mainstream news source isn't fake, but there are severe structural problems w/ how they cover the news. It's still a good idea to check them out, but also follow independent news sources that don't have these problems.
