Baby K8 back when I was at @wvua23 in 2018. All this storm coverage makes me think of this day.

When I did this story, I had very limited time to put it together. Shot the whole thing on auto(WHAT). Ditched the tripod(WHY). Forgot to put my own super in(HOW).
Despite the poor execution, this will will always be one of my favs.

It made me realize what I love about journalism. I’d never met the Sandras family, I was connected to them through a line of mutual friends.
The feeling of a complete stranger trusting you to tell their story in an accurate, dignified and sensitive manner cannot be matched.
Two years later Kim and I actually still talk from time to time. Her kindness is unique.

I’m not religious or spiritual but in a small way, I think this story led me to Mississippi which I’ll forever be thankful for.
Everyone stay safe out there this week! The resilience of southerners never ceases to amaze me.
Also not that it matters but I actually sent this thread at like 3pm and I only just noticed it didn’t post until 20 min ago
