Hi, so Andrew Gillum's sex life is his private business, and we don't actually know the terms of their marriage. His choice to come out is his choice, and I'm noticing a lot of shitty bigoted commentary abt bisexual ppl among liberals right now that needs to stop immediately.

I'm going to go to bat for bisexual people here. I'm going to repeat and discuss the things I've heard from ppl who say they are allies and liberal. And refute each point.
1. I wld be afraid someone bisexual wld cheat on me.

Um. Anyone cld cheat on you.

Anyone. Period. Their bisexuality has nothing to do with their ability to be faithful.

2. "How can they say they are bisexual? They are in a 'heterosexual' marriage?

Okay, first, marriage is not sentient. It cannot have a sexual orientation.

Second, a person is bisexual whether or not they are married to someone of the opposite sex. They will still be bisexual even if married to a het person. It is a part of their identity.

It remains who they are.

3. "But they aren't have sex with the same gender, because they are married to someone of the opposite gender!"

First, you're not in that marriage, so you actually know nothing abt it. Secondly, you don't just become bisexual when you are having sex.

If you are bisexual, you are always bisexual, even if you are doing laundry or sweeping the front porch.

4. Calling someone a slur because you think they've done something bad? It's still a slur, and other ppl are reading it and being hurt by it.

For the most part, don't call ppl bigoted slurs, even if they are horrible ppl.

I'm pansexual myself, and I also do not take "I'm part of the queer community so it's okay!" as an excuse. If anything, that makes it worse.

5. "They are just bisexual for cred." Really. You just called them a slur and questioned their orientation and now they are being treated badly by bigots. Please point to where and how to find "the cred" and enjoy it. I wld like to know where my "cred" for being pansexual is, too

I get there are a few pretentious ppl out there in the world and some terrible liars, but for the most part, ppl don't "become" LGBTQIA+ "for cred." That is a bigoted stupid thing to say.

I realize the het community is behind on some of these things. Well, here is your opportunity to educate yourself! Go for it! There are plenty of ways to do so. Google is your friend. No more bigotry abt bisexual ppl. No more bigotry abt anyone.
