Mini-thread on where I fucked up in 2019 caused by setting time-based goals that would have me making irrational decisions

Hopefully someone can learn from my mistakes

Cc @tahmmygiovanni
Goal:

Have a network of 20 million followers by the end of the year

Result:

Spent $300k on pages, half of which died out within a couple months the because I went for the cheapest pages rather than the highest quality
Also had $50k worth of pages that got banned right after buying them because I didn’t take the time to properly vet the kid I bought them from

Lesson:

Never rush investments just because you think you know your industry like the back of your hand
Goal:

Hit $1m liquid by the end of the year

Result:

Ended up spending a bunch of time working on side projects that took my focus off of Bolis Media, causing Bolis Media to not grow at all from May-November

Lesson:

When your business is killing it, KEEP BUILDING MOMENTUM
Goal:

Have all Bolis Media operations streamlined within 6 months

Result:

Paid over $50k for tech that’s unusable by us because I tried rushing a massive project, leading to huge miscommunication between me & the dev team

Lesson:

Do NOT rush building any tech, do it right.
Overall Lesson:

Fuck arbitrary numbers

Focus on what matters, continue to learn & grow, and don’t rush anything

Everything will always happen exactly as it’s meant to be
