Some thoughts on something else I love about our #DFIR community - a thread 1/x
Had an amazing conversation with @hexplates today both on and off of #CacheUp - and then some great conversations later with others who asked Why is the #DFIR community so positive and inclusive? 2/x
I think the #DFIR community is more open and inclusive because we continually have to build on the work of others and seek truth. An ingrained principle of our work is to find exculpatory and inculpatory evidence and treat the data as the place that has truth. 3/x
We spend much of our careers either validating or invalidating narratives and building on others that it leaves little room for egos or isolation. 4/x
It is very difficult to do this job without taking into context that you have to see what the data says as opposed to the narrative and build on the work of others. 5/x
Is our field still primarily CIS White Males? Yes. Have we worked to have underepresented folks represented - YES! 6/x
Have several women, BIPOC, LGBTQ2+ folks, others, and allies in this field come together and said lets not perpetuate the myths of unicorns and instead have representation - YES! 7/x
Do we intentionally ensure an attempt to balance representation and send the elevator back down to raise others up - YES! 8/x
Do a variety of events/venues intentionally highlight a diversity of folks in terms of background, gender, race, sexual orientation, neurodiversity, and more intentionally to show all of those folks on equal footing in our field without stating it? YES! 9/x
This is an amazing community. We have a ways to go, but we are trying and growing. Just like how we say you don't know what you don't know technically, it is the same socially. We learn and grow to be better and more inclusive as a community and as individuals. 10/x
There are fantastic initiatives like @CyberSleuthLab that introduces HS age women and other underrepresented minorities to #DFIR! 11/x
The work that we do and our belief in truth in data and that data doesn't discriminate so why should we? Let's continue to grow. I love our #DFIR community. 12/12
