/The following thread contains my analysis of text of "Treaty of Peace, Diplomatic Relations and Full Normalization Between the United Arab Emirates and the State of Israel," based on my 10 years negotiating int'l agreements as a US State Dept attorney https://www.whitehouse.gov/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/ABRAHAM-ACCORDS-PEACE-AGREEMENT.pdf
/Despite what some have said, this is a treaty, not a mere statement of intent. The key provision states: "Peace, diplomatic relations and full normalization of bilateral ties are hereby established between the United Arab Emirates and the State of Israel." No ifs ands or buts.
/The Palestinians will be VERY disappointed by this agreement. There is reference to the Palestinians. For example Israel and UAE commit to "continuing their efforts to achieve a just, comprehensive, realistic and enduring solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict . . . "
/and agreemt says Israel&UAE "committed to working together to realize a negotiated solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict that meets the legitimate needs and aspirations of both peoples."But that's it.There's NO mention of Palestinian statehood let alone "right of return"
/Nor does UAE-Israel agreement mention a) Israeli withdrawal from territories or b) UN Security Council Resolution 242 which calls for such withdrawal (and was included in Israel-Jordan agreement and elsewhere as the formal reference point and formula for Middle East peace).
/Nor does Israel-UAE agreement mention the Arab Peace Initiative or the Temple Mount/Haram al-Sharif in any way. In addition, the Palestinians have long been "anti-normalization" of relations between Israel and Arabs.
/Israel-Jordan is titled "Treaty of Peace Between the State of Israel and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan." This is "Treaty of Peace, Diplomatic Relations and Full Normalization Between the United Arab Emirates and the State of Israel." Rejects "anti-normalization" IN ITS TITLE.
/UAE & Israel agree to foster peace by "forging closer people-to-people relations" and "cultivating people-to-people programs...and cultural, academic, youth, scientific and other exchanges between their peoples." The opposite of BDS boycotts of Israeli culture, academics, etc.
/Similarly, UAE & Israel affirm they'll "promote tourism cooperation between them as a key component... of developing closer people-to-people and cultural ties," including "reciprocal study tours" and using "national marketing budgets to promote mutual tourism." Opposite of BDS.
/UAE&Israel agree "to prevent any terrorist or hostile activities against each other on or from their respective territories, as well as deny any support for such activities abroad or allowing such support on or from their respective territories."
